Snow paralyzes public transport in Basel until the end of the day

The Basler Verkehrsbetriebe (BVB) are suspending public transport services on buses and streetcars until the end of the day. This is for safety reasons, the BVB announced in the evening.
The weather conditions and the resulting impact on road and rail traffic were "very precarious", according to the press release. Some points were iced over or even frozen and could no longer be set. In addition, various gradients were no longer passable for buses. Several roads were also impassable due to blocked cars.
For these reasons, BVB has decided to "suspend operations with immediate effect until the end of service for safety reasons". The transport companies of the cities of Bern and Zurich had already announced earlier that they were suspending bus services.
