600 people call the Lucerne police because of the onset of winter

Around 30 accidents occurred on the snow-covered roads in the canton of Lucerne on Thursday. Most of them were minor, but several people were slightly injured.
As the Lucerne police announced on Friday, they received over 600 emergency calls from 3 p.m. on Thursday until well after midnight. These included over 30 traffic accidents involving property damage or personal injury.
According to a police spokesperson, other emergency calls concerned vehicles that were stuck or had left the road. People stuck in traffic jams also called the police.
According to the Lucerne police, the majority of the more than 30 accidents were self-inflicted and rear-end collisions. However, there were also collisions between several vehicles.
Several people involved in the accident were taken to hospital by ambulance. According to initial findings, they were only slightly injured, the police said.
According to the police, traffic came to a standstill on the snow-covered roads late on Thursday afternoon and in the evening. Cars with summer tires got stuck. Trucks blocked roads. Several trucks were also stuck on the highway. The police closed various sections of road for safety reasons.
