Following the heavy snowfall in Switzerland over the last few days, bus and streetcar services in Zurich, Basel and Bern largely returned to normal on Saturday. Swiss Post's operations also returned to normal after Friday's restrictions. There were also only isolated delays at SBB.

All shipments were able to be carried out again on Saturday, according to Swiss Post. The delivery staff were also able to carry out their rounds again as normal. The snowfall of the past few days had also taken its toll on Swiss Post. Due to the sometimes precarious conditions, it was unable to guarantee all collection and delivery services on Friday.

Customers therefore had to expect delays, it was reported. All regions in Switzerland were affected. By contrast, operations on the PostBus routes had already returned to normal by Friday.

The operational situation at SBB has also largely returned to normal following the heavy, exceptional snowfall on Saturday. The snow clearing and switch cleaning teams were working non-stop. According to information from Saturday, delays are still to be expected in isolated cases. The disruption to customer information in the online timetable and via the SBB app due to the numerous inquiries has also been resolved.

Streetcars and buses are running again

In Basel, however, all bus and streetcar lines were running regularly again on Saturday morning. Thanks to the efforts of various people, the last streetcar lines were also able to resume regular service late on Friday evening, it was reported on Saturday morning. The Basel bus network was able to gradually resume operations on Friday morning.

The streetcars in the city of Bern also gradually resumed operations on Saturday morning. Two lines have been running again as usual since Saturday morning, with two more to follow in the course of the morning. According to the Bernmobil transport company, the station-Fischermätteli section of line 6 and the station-Saali connection of line 8 are expected to remain closed until Sunday.

The icy winter weather led to restrictions on bus services in the city of Zurich. On Saturday morning, the Zurich public transport company temporarily suspended two bus routes due to icy conditions.

Frosty situation

With a few exceptions, Switzerland also had a largely frosty start to the day on Saturday. It was coldest in the high Alps and the known cold-air lakes. According to the private weather service Meteonews, it was coldest on Saturday morning in Buffalora/Ofenpass in the Engadine at minus 18.6 degrees, on Corvatsch GR (-18.1 degrees) and on the Jungfraujoch at 16.5 degrees. Double-digit temperatures below zero were also recorded in Bivio GR (-15.3 degrees), in La Brévine in Neuchâtel (-17.5 degrees) and on the Säntis in eastern Switzerland (-11.8 degrees).

On the other hand, there were positive temperatures and therefore no frost in Altenrhein SG and Le Bouveret VS on Lake Geneva with 2.7 and 2.1 degrees respectively. According to forecasts, the Alpine valleys can expect a light föhn wind on Saturday afternoon.
