Construction prices in Switzerland rose again in the past six months. More had to be paid in both building construction and civil engineering. However, the rise in prices has slowed compared to the previous winter half-year.
The construction price index calculated twice a year by the Federal Statistical Office (FSO) rose by 0.1% between April and October 2024 to 115.2 points (October 2020 = 100), as the federal authority announced on Thursday. The price upswing has thus weakened slightly compared to the previous six months, when prices had risen by 0.4%.
This resulted in a price increase of 0.5% for the annual period (October 2023 to October 2024).
As in the previous period, prices in building construction rose slightly less strongly than in civil engineering in the past six months. The increase of 0.1% in building construction is mainly explained by the FSO with higher prices for "electrical installations", "fees" and "shell construction 2". In geographical terms, construction costs rose the most in the Lake Geneva region (+0.5%), while Central Switzerland (-0.3%) recorded the sharpest decline.
The price increase in civil engineering amounted to 0.4%. The FSO attributes this mainly to more expensive "route construction" (superstructure, earthworks and substructure) and higher "fees". With the exception of the Lake Geneva region, Eastern Switzerland and the Espace Mittelland, prices fell in all major regions.
