“My Three Sons Fight the Fire”

The village of Bitsch and the neighbouring community of Ried-Mörel in the Oberwallis region of Switzerland are currently facing a forest fire. Helicopters are flying over the mountain slopes above the village, and the local fire brigade is working hard to contain the blaze. The local primary school is providing media coverage of the situation, and the local mayor, Edgar Kuonen, has three sons who are part of the fire brigade. Around 200 people have been evacuated from the area, with some staying with family and friends and others taking refuge in the local school's gymnasium. Tourists in the area have also been affected, and are returning home to Germany earlier than planned. The police and fire brigade are providing regular updates to the evacuated people, and are warning them to stay away from the fire zone. The streets of Mörel-Filet are quiet, and the fire brigade and helicopter pilots are continuing to work hard to contain the blaze.
