Environmental organisations have expressed concern about the Federal Solar Offensive, which has caused a "gold rush" mentality. They would prefer to see solar panels installed on existing buildings rather than in open alpine areas. Pro Natura Graubünden stated that enough solar power can be produced on existing infrastructure and that free-field solar plants are not necessary. Mountain Wilderness is more open to the idea of solar plants in already developed and burdened areas, such as heavily used tourist zones or existing dams. However, they would prefer to see solar plants installed on roofs and along roads. Mountain Wilderness is opposed to solar plants in areas with high wilderness quality, such as Grengiols-Solar and Gondo-Solar in the canton of Valais. Pro Natura is also strongly against solar plants in nature and landscape inventories or in adjacent, untouched areas.nnnn
