Employee associations KV Switzerland and Angestellte Switzerland are demanding up to 4.5 percent more wages by 2024. For employees with monthly wages below 4200 francs, the increase should be 300 francs. Given the economic situation and the negative real wage development due to inflation, they consider this to be justified. The modest wage increases of recent years would hardly compensate for the rising living costs, the two associations wrote on Thursday. The 4.5 percent wage increase demanded is particularly directed at companies that do not grant their employees a cost of living adjustment. According to the Commercial Association (KV Switzerland) and the Employees Switzerland, the situation with a robust labor market and thus associated stable consumption behavior is exceptional. Nevertheless, many households have to accept real wage losses, while companies distribute profits. Against this background, the associations consider their demands in the current wage round to be legitimate and necessary. The purchasing power of employees is of "eminent importance" to the Swiss economy. After all, attractive wages are also a means of combating the shortage of labor.
