13 people are candidates for the two seats in the Council of States that are to be filled.

The number of candidates for the National Council is slightly higher than in 2019, which is a new record according to the Vaud State Chancellery. Those interested are divided into 22 lists, the order of which was drawn on Monday.

Nine lists with a total of 13 names were submitted for the Council of States. That’s slightly fewer than in 2019, when 15 candidates entered the race on 11 lists.

The 19 Vaud National Council seats are divided as follows: SP 5, FDP 5, Greens 4, SVP 3, Green Liberals 2. Two previous seats are no longer standing: Ada Marra from the SP and Jean-Pierre Grin from the SVP.

In the Council of States, Vaud was represented in the current legislature by Olivier Français (FDP) and Adèle Thorens (Greens). Both no longer appear. The most prominent contenders for the new seats in the small chamber are former State Councilors Pascal Broulis (FDP) and Pierre-Yves Maillard (SP).
