The Swiss labor market is proving robust despite challenges. In particular, demand for professionals in the machinery, electrical and metal (MEM) industries is holding up, according to the Swiss Job Market Index from staffing firm Adecco.
After a stable first half of the year, the job market index saw a slight overall increase in the third quarter, Adecco announced on Tuesday. Compared to the previous quarter, the personnel consultant registered a 3 percent increase in job advertisements. Compared to the same quarter last year, the growth was even 7 percent.
The Swiss labor market is thus proving “impressively resilient” despite the current difficult economic situation, it said.
Rising demand in the MEM industries
According to Adecco, the sub-index for occupations in the MEM industries in particular increased in the third quarter. Particularly in demand were, for example, specialists for plant operation as well as assembly professions and technical experts.
However, job advertisements in the automation and electronics sectors had also increased. However, the first signs of a slowdown are already visible. For the time being, however, the continued good order situation is supporting the industry and keeping demand for skilled workers high.
