An 87-year-old man was fatally injured in a hunting accident in Curtilles VD last Friday.
According to initial findings, he was shot in the groin during a hunting operation for reasons that are still unclear.
Despite first aid provided by other hunters and later by the police, the Swiss man died at the scene of the accident, the Vaud canton police said on Thursday. The public prosecutor’s office has opened a criminal investigation to determine the exact circumstances and causes of the accident.
It is not the first accident in this year’s hunting season in Switzerland. At the beginning of September, a 42-year-old hunter was found dead in the Avers Valley near Innerferrera GR.
The man had apparently fallen on steep and impassable terrain. In mid-September, a hunter was hit and injured by a ricochet while hunting in the canton of Uri. Rega flew the 38-year-old to the hospital.
