16-year-old motorcyclist dies in the canton of Vaud

A 16-year-old motorcycle learner died in an accident in Gossens VD on Thursday evening. For reasons as yet unexplained, he lost control of his vehicle on a right-hand bend and collided with an oncoming car.
The learner driver, who lived in the region, died at the scene despite the rapid intervention of the emergency services, as the Vaud cantonal police wrote in a statement. The fatal accident occurred shortly after 6 p.m. in the village of Gossens in the northern Vaud municipality of Donneloye.
The driver of the car, a 45-year-old Portuguese national, and his passenger suffered a shock. An investigation has been initiated. The road was closed in both directions for several hours, it was reported.
