After a chase, security forces in Valais have arrested a 17-year-old Frenchman. The young man, who lives in France, had entered Switzerland near St-Gingolph on Sunday night and evaded control.

The Valais cantonal police were informed of a suspicious vehicle coming from France by employees of the Federal Office for Customs and Border Security (FOCBS) at the St-Gingolph post shortly before 2 a.m. on Sunday morning, according to a police statement issued on Sunday evening.

The BAZG employees set up a stopping post in Le Bouveret. However, the driver, after initially appearing to follow the instructions of the BAZG employees, suddenly continued his journey in the direction of Monthey.

According to the Valais cantonal police, this led to a chase between the various police forces, which consisted of the cantonal police, the municipal police of Haut-Lac and Monthey as well as employees of the BAZG. After several unsuccessful attempts by the police to stop him, the driver was arrested by the cantonal police on the road from Morgins to Troistorrents.

No one was injured during the operation. However, several police vehicles sustained minor damage. An investigation has been launched and the perpetrator will be reported to the juvenile court, it was reported.
