Around 500 people took part in a memorial march in Sion VS on Saturday for the victims of Monday's shooting. The march was organized by the family of one of the two victims.

Participants in the march gathered in front of a school building in the Blancherie district. There were people of all ages and many families with children, as a reporter from the Keystone-SDA news agency reported from the scene. The silent march began at 11 am. Many of the participants were holding white balloons and white or red roses.

The memorial march was called for in the obituary of the woman who was killed. In it, the bereaved called for the life of the deceased to be honored and to celebrate how much "her joy" had brightened the lives of the bereaved.

First woman, then man killed

A 34-year-old woman and a 41-year-old man from central Valais were killed in the shooting on Monday. The perpetrator first opened fire on the woman in a parking lot. She suffered a fatal gunshot wound.

A few minutes later, a man was also shot at a second crime scene. A 49-year-old woman was also injured by a gunshot. She was taken to hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries. She is a woman from Valais who lives in the region.

According to the police, the perpetrator knew his victims. The man who was killed and the woman who was injured were employees of the perpetrator at a plastering and painting company in Sion. It is not yet known what relationship the perpetrator had to the woman who was killed.

Public prosecutor denies relationship offense

Olivier Elsig, the senior public prosecutor responsible for the central Valais region, cited arguments between the perpetrator and the victims as a probable motive for the crime. Elsig did not elaborate to the media on the nature of these disputes. However, he denied media reports that the bloody crime was a relationship crime.

The man was known to the judicial authorities, but was not considered a high-risk person. The man offered no resistance when arrested and immediately confessed to the crime.
