A woman will once again sit in the seven-member Uri government in the next legislature: Céline Huber, a member of the central cantonal council, made the leap into the executive at her first attempt on Sunday. In addition, four of the five incumbents were re-elected, while SP councillor Dimitri Moretti will have to run in the second round of elections on April 21. The winner of the district council elections is the GLP.
The best result was achieved by FDP councillor and Landammann Urs Janett with 9768 votes, as announced by the State Chancellery in Altdorf Town Hall on election Sunday. The absolute majority was 6966 votes. Christian Arnold (SVP) won the second seat with 9730 votes. He was also elected state governor with 5335 votes.
The previous council members Urban Camenzind (center) with 7555 votes and Daniel Furrer (center) with 7487 votes also made it into the government. They took the fourth and fifth seats.
The third-best result was achieved by centrist Céline Huber with 8,158 votes. "I'm overwhelmed", she told the Keystone-SDA news agency. "I always assumed that there would be a second ballot. The fact that it worked out at the first attempt fills me with incredible gratitude."
With Huber, Uri will once again have a woman in its seven-member government after 2020. "I think every committee lives from a wide range of perspectives and life experiences that flow into it. I think that I will also bring a different experience to the table." This is the only way to develop diverse and viable solutions that take different perspectives into account.
Moretti: "I am not disappointed"
The previous state governor was SP councillor Dimitri Moretti. He finished in seventh place, scoring 6140 votes and thus missing out on an absolute majority. "The result is not unexpected. The SP is a small party in the canton. There were 12 candidates for seven seats, which is a very large field of candidates," the cantonal councillor told Keystone-SDA.
He therefore had to expect that there would be a second round of voting. "I'm not disappointed, but rather positive about the second ballot." The concordance has been upheld in the canton so far and he assumes that this will be the case again.
Center candidate Hermann Epp came sixth with 6882 votes. FDP councillor Georg Simmen finished in 8th place with 6085 votes. The candidates with the lowest number of votes were Sämi Gisler (1429 votes), Hansueli Gisler (SVP, 2677 votes), Luzia Gisler (GLP, 3996 votes) and Petra Muheim (FDP, 4766 votes).
GLP makes it into parliament
On Sunday, 61 out of 64 seats were allocated in the cantonal parliament of Uri. The GLP was particularly successful, gaining three seats in the cantonal parliament but not reaching parliamentary strength. On the other hand, the SP/Green parliamentary group suffered a slight bloodletting. Their share of seats shrank from 9 to 7.
The center still has the most members with 23 seats. However, it had to give up two seats. The FDP, previously the second strongest party in the Landrat, lost four seats and was thus replaced by the SVP as the second strongest group in parliament. The SVP grew by one seat and now occupies 15 seats, while the FDP has 12. A non-party candidate also made it into the district council.
Three seats could not be allocated due to the lack of an absolute majority in the municipalities of Andermatt, Flüelen and Seedorf. The final figures for the district council are therefore still pending. The 2nd ballot will take place on April 21.
