In the National Council elections in the canton of Aargau, the SVP regained its seventh seat, which it had lost four years ago. The EVP lost its only seat, while the other parties held their seats. For the free SVP seat in the Council of States, a second round of voting will take place. After four years, Lilian Studer, President of the EVP Switzerland, will have to vacate her seat in the National Council. The small party lost its seat, which the 46-year-old Studer had won four years ago with the help of a list connection. Her father, Heiner Studer, had also been involved in politics in the great chamber. Although the SVP gained an additional seat, its voter share of 35.5 percent was below its best result of 2015.

New to the National Council for the SVP will be Grand Councilor Christoph Riner from Zeihen. The 46-year-old businessman has mainly campaigned politically for higher hurdles for naturalization and for shooting sports. Glarner was struck off the voting lists Riner even achieved more votes than party president Andreas Glarner. Glarner's name was repeatedly struck off the SVP list, so he slipped from the second place on the list to the fifth place. The regular provocations of Glarner are apparently not appreciated by everyone in his own party.

The former FDP National Councilor Matthias Samuel Jauslin was re-elected very narrowly. Grand Councilor Adrian Schoop, who had the most expensive election campaign with a personal budget of 175,000 francs, achieved only 90 votes less than Jauslin. The 38-year-old entrepreneur from the East Aargau campaigns at the right edge of the FDP.

At the SP, National Councilor and Co-President Cédric Wermuth achieved the second best result after Gabriela Suter. Four years ago, Wermuth had achieved the best result on the party list. The 37-year-old Wermuth has been a member of the National Council since 2011. According to party statutes, after twelve years it should be over - the party base decided on an exception for Wermuth. He is - together with the re-elected Beat Flach (GLP) - the oldest Aargau representative in the federal councils. For the SP, Grand Councilor Simona Brizzi will enter the National Council. The 50-year-old from Ennetbaden is a lecturer.

The clear flagship of the Greens is still the former National Council President Irène Kälin. She received the most votes, despite strong internal party competition. At the center, Andreas Meier was re-elected, although he only took office at the beginning of the year. The 16 seats are distributed as follows: SVP 7 (2019: 6), SP 3 (3), FDP 2 (2), Mitte 2 (2), Green 1 (1), GLP 1 (1), EVP 0 (1).

Runoff for free SVP seat in the Council of States Council of States and FDP party president Thierry Burkart was clearly re-elected. For the free SVP seat in the Council of States, a second round of voting will take place on November 19th. Burkart exceeded the absolute majority by more than 9700 votes. National Councilor Giezendanner, President of the Aargau Chamber of Commerce, remained almost 10,000 votes below the absolute majority. As a National Councilor, he achieved the best result of all candidates. SP National Councilor Gabriela Suter came third as a Council of States candidate, closely followed by National Councilor Marianne Binder-Keller. National Councilors Kälin and Studer and Barbara Portmann (GLP) had no chance. The participation in the National Council election was 46.5 percent, in the Council of States election 45.9 percent.
