According to a survey, less than half of the Swiss population is looking forward to the Eurovision Song Contest being held in Switzerland. Supporters of left-wing parties are more excited than supporters of conservative parties.
This was revealed by a survey conducted by Sotomo and published in the newspaper "Blick" on Saturday. A total of 24,720 people were surveyed. They answered the question of whether they would welcome Switzerland, and therefore SRG, hosting the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) in 2025.
49 percent of them answered "no" or "rather no", and 46 percent "yes" or "rather yes". Five percent gave no answer. The ESC enjoys the greatest support among Green Party supporters, with 72% in favor. The SP, GLP and the Center Party also have a majority with anticipation.
The situation is different for those who prefer the SVP and FDP: skeptics clearly predominate among the supporters of these two parties, with 74% of SVP supporters. The majority of those who did not state a party preference in the survey are also not looking forward to the ESC in Switzerland.
Several Swiss cities have announced their candidacy to host the ESC. They are Basel, Bern - together with Biel - Zurich and Geneva.
The ESC 2025 will take place in Switzerland after Nemo from Biel won this year's edition. According to the schedule, the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and SRG will examine the submitted dossiers in July and August. The decision on the venue for the ESC 2025 will be announced at the end of August.
