Accused of “cave murder” requires long-term treatment

Before the Aargau High Court on Monday, the psychiatric expert stated that the accused in the so-called "Bruggerberg cave murder" requires long-term therapeutic treatment.
This means that at least one of the defendant's appeal goals is hardly achievable. With his appeal against the first-instance judgment of the District Court of Brugg, the 25-year-old defendant wants to achieve three goals: a shorter prison sentence and an acquittal from the charge of attempted murder in Ticino.
At the time, he allegedly pushed his friend down a steep slope. In October 2022, the district court sentenced the Swiss national to 19 years and two months in prison for murder (on the Bruggerberg) and attempted murder.
It ordered inpatient treatment for adults. Its duration depends on the success of the treatment.
