Actress Karla Sofía Gascón wins European Film Award

The actress Karla Sofía Gascón was awarded Best European Actress in Lucerne on Saturday evening. She won this award for her performance in "Emilia Pérez".
The Spanish actress said on stage at the Culture and Convention Center in Lucerne that she hadn't prepared an acceptance speech. She had not expected it. Gascón then thanked her mother and all the mothers in the world.
In Jacques Audiard's film, Gascón plays a well-known Mexican drug dealer who, with the help of a lawyer, undergoes a sex change and becomes Emilia Pérez so that he can go into hiding.
With this award, the trans actress beat Renate Reinsve ("Armand"), Trine Dyrholm ("The Girl with the Needle"), Vic Carmen Sonne ("The Girl with the Needle") and Tilda Swinton ("The Room Next Door").
