A 25-year-old man who buried a colleague alive in a cave on the Bruggerberg in April 2019 will stand before the High Court of the Canton of Aargau on Monday (today).

A week earlier, the Swiss skier had pushed the same colleague down a steep slope in Ticino. The 24-year-old was lucky to survive with only minor injuries. Because the man who had been pushed assumed that they were "best friends", he and his family considered the push an accident. The colleague had no reservations about going out with the accused again.

In October 2022, the Brugg District Court sentenced the Swiss national to 19 years and two months' imprisonment for murder and attempted murder as well as other offenses. It ordered an inpatient measure for severely disturbed offenders. No release date has been set for this - release depends on the success of the treatment.

Aggressive from an early age

The psychiatric report found a dissocial personality disorder. The young man also has reduced intelligence and ADHD. He had been aggressive since early childhood. All forensic tests revealed high risk results. He was found to be fully culpable at the time of the crime.

With the sentence, the court went beyond the request of the prosecution, which had demanded 16 years and four months. The defense lawyer had requested 12 years and a measure for young adults for his confessed client. Such a sentence must end at the latest at the age of 30.

Colleagues buried alive

On April 7, 2019, the accused tricked his 24-year-old colleague into crawling into a narrow cave on the Bruggerberg under the pretext of a test of courage. He then blocked the entrance with boulders and earth.

The man buried alive had no chance of survival. He froze to death in the cold cave. A year later, local hikers dug out the filled-in cave and discovered the remains of the dead man. The accused was arrested in March 2021.
