The Swiss Bishops' Conference has condemned the "unacceptable behavior" of Sanija Ameti. Like many Catholics, the Swiss bishops feel offended in their religious sensibilities.

This was announced by the Swiss Bishops' Conference (SBK) on Monday. Even if one disregards the religious representation of the Mother of God, the act bears witness to violence and disrespect for the human person.

The Swiss bishops were grateful for Ameti's letter to the Bishop of Chur, in which she asked the Catholic community for forgiveness, the statement continued. Nevertheless, the bishops are obliged to publicly express their deep disapproval.

Last week, Ameti posted pictures on Instagram showing her with a pistol during shooting practice, as well as a picture of Jesus and Mary shot through with numerous bullets. Ameti has been co-president of Operation Libero for around three years and is politically active in the GLP. The party leadership now wants to expel her from the party.
