In an interview, President Viola Amherd has described defamatory statements against her on Russian TV as "out of order". "The accusations are so out of line that it is obvious that it is about disinformation."

"I have taken note of this and left it at that," said the Central Federal Councillor from Valais in an interview with Swiss Radio and Television (SRF) on Monday. In response to a corresponding question, the 62-year-old went on to say that it appeared that Russian President Vladimir Putin was taking the Ukraine conference organized by Switzerland at Bürgenstock NW seriously.

The President of the Swiss Confederation was recently massively disparaged on Russian television in a discussion program. She was said to be addicted to luxury and not particularly attractive. She was called a "baby murderer" and a "Satanist". The Swiss government has not yet commented on this. Nor whether a diplomatic response was issued.

Russian media are also invited to the two-day Ukraine conference, which begins on Saturday at the Bürgenstock. "We have freedom of expression and freedom of the press in our country," said Amherd. "It is important that Russian media can get a picture of the situation on the ground."

The meeting on the Bürgenstock planned by Switzerland at the request of Ukraine is intended to provide an impetus for a peace process in the war in Ukraine started by Russia. Russia has not been invited and would not have taken part. Specifically, the summit, with over 40 registered heads of state and government, is intended to mobilize more international support for the attacked Ukraine and create the conditions for a subsequent peace summit with the participation of Russia.
