Amherd wants to remain a Federal Councillor – no resignation at the end of 2024

Viola Amherd will "certainly not step down" as Federal Councillor at the end of the year. The current President of the Swiss Confederation gave this assurance in an interview with Swiss television SRF on Monday. In doing so, she countered rumors to the contrary.
The presidential year has been so busy with appointments and work that she has not yet had time to think about resigning, said the Valais native in the recording of the August 1st interview on Swiss-German television. Should the time come, she promised to inform the media immediately.
"You don't have to ask me every week," she said to SRF parliamentary editor Urs Leuthard after various media recently speculated about Amherd stepping down after her presidential year. And the Minister of Defense emphasized: "I will continue to work."
