The Canton of Appenzell Ausserrhoden has budgeted a loss of 10.4 million Swiss francs in its state finances for 2024. According to a statement, the negative result is mainly due to the missing income from the Swiss National Bank (SNB) dividend.

In the last year's budget and financial planning, a profit distribution of 12.7 million Swiss francs by the SNB was expected, the canton announced on Friday in a statement. For the 2024 budget, it is now foregoing a corresponding budgeting.

The Canton of Zurich is expecting total expenditure of 541.2 million Swiss Francs for the upcoming year. The total revenue is estimated to be 530.8 million Swiss Francs.

The current forecast shows slightly lower tax revenues from natural persons compared to the previous year. These are compensated by the higher earnings of legal entities. The cantonal tax rate for natural persons will remain unchanged at 3.3 tax units, and the corporate income tax rate for legal entities will remain at 6.5 percent.

In the Budget 2024, a general salary increase of 1.5 percent has been set to offset inflation for state personnel. 0.5 percent of the total salary is allocated for individual salary measures. The Cantonal Council will discuss the budget in early December.
