The Federal Council has given the Swiss Armed Forces the green light for a pilot project to evaluate the athletic performance of members of the armed forces and military personnel. With "Fit on Duty", health data is to be analyzed in real time from 2024.
The Defense Group and the Federal Office of Sport (Baspo) jointly launched the pilot project, the Federal Council announced on Wednesday. The aim is to scientifically evaluate the sporting performance of members of the armed forces and military personnel.
Monitoring the development of the physical and mental condition of members of the armed forces from recruitment to discharge from military service should also enable the improvement of physical performance throughout their military career, the early detection of critical health conditions and the prevention of accidents and injuries, the press release continued. The information is to be collected via sensors, similar to how smart watches work, for example.
To this end, the Federal Council amended the Ordinance on Military and Other Information Systems in the DDPS (MIV). The amendment will enter into force on January 1, 2024 and remain valid until the end of 2028.
