Army chief Thomas Süssli: “We don’t have a financial hole”

"We have no financial shortfall and we can pay all our bills," said army chief Thomas Süssli in Bern on Thursday in response to media reports on the financial situation of the Swiss Armed Forces. However, the development of the army's defense capability will be delayed by several years due to the delayed increase in the army budget.
Priorities must now be set for functional expenditure, said Süssli. The army will not be able to invest until 2028, but will need the available funds for the obligations it has entered into.
