Around one in three freeway vignettes is now an e-vignette

The electronic highway vignette is proving popular. A good third of the vignettes sold in 2024 were sold digitally. This is shown by figures from the Federal Office for Customs and Border Security.
Of the approximately 11 million vignettes sold for 2024, around 35 percent were the digital version, according to a statement from the Federal Office for Customs and Border Security (FOCBS) on Thursday. The rest were stickers. Around 2.35 million e-vignettes were sold in Switzerland, the rest for cars with foreign license plates.
Demand was highest in Germany. This was followed by France, Italy, the Netherlands and Belgium. According to the BAZG, the fact that the digitally issued vignette is so popular is probably due to its advantages.
Not only does the sticker have to be affixed and removed from the windshield after it expires. The e-vignette can be purchased anywhere and at any time, is digitally linked to a license plate and is valid immediately after purchase. If you change your car and keep the number plate, you can also keep the vignette.
The vignette for 2025 - whether digital or as a sticker - will be available from December 1, is orange and costs CHF 40. Stickers can be purchased at the post office, garages and petrol stations; the e-vignette can be purchased online.
After the introduction of the digital vignette in 2023, the federal government warned that it should be purchased via the federal government portal and not from other providers. These providers could incur additional costs because the sales price is set higher.
