Opinions on the status of equality vary widely depending on gender. In a survey, young men expressed the view that equality in Switzerland had been achieved in almost all areas, while women took exactly the opposite view.

According to a press release from the Swiss Conference of Gender Equality Delegates (SKG) and Sotomo, women were much more critical than men in their assessment of the state of equality. The differences between the genders were not only evident in the assessment of equality, but also in satisfaction with the work-life balance and experiences of discrimination and assault.

The majority of respondents said that there was still no equality in terms of equal pay, work-life balance, career opportunities and the division of housework. The men of Generation Z, i.e. those born between 1997 and 2007, saw things differently. They were much less critical of the state of equality in these areas than the women of their generation and men of older generations.

There is broad support for political demands that promote the compatibility of work and family life. Demands to strengthen the LGBTIQ+ community are predominantly supported by women, while a non-binary gender concept is least supported by young men.

The representative online survey was conducted by Sotomo in October 2023 on behalf of the SKG. 2,500 people from all over Switzerland were surveyed.
