Social Affairs Minister Elisabeth Baume-Schneider is not ruling out personnel consequences following the AHV miscalculation. In an interview with SRF radio, the Federal Councillor responsible said that once the administrative investigation has been completed, she wants to show transparently how the error could have occurred.
As early as mid-May, the Federal Social Insurance Office (FSIO) first suspected that something might be wrong with the calculations of AHV expenditure. However, the head of the department responsible only found out about this two months later, as she went on to say.
Transparency is very important to her, Baume-Schneider had already told the Keystone-SDA news agency on Tuesday on the fringes of an event in La Chaux-de-Fonds NE. That is why she has initiated an administrative investigation. The aim is to understand how the difficulties and errors in the calculations came about.
"It will be a matter of understanding when the errors occurred in order to be credible and make decisions," said the Federal Councillor. The Jura native emphasized the need to restore Swiss people's trust in social insurance.
The Federal Social Insurance Office (FSIO) revised the financial outlook for the AHV downwards on Tuesday. AHV expenditure in 2033 is likely to be around four billion francs or around six percent lower than previously calculated. The financial situation of the AHV is therefore likely to be better than assumed. In the meantime, the Greens have already announced an appeal against the vote on raising the retirement age for women.
