Justice Minister Beat Jans has condemned the attack on a Jewish citizen in Zurich "in the strongest possible terms". No form of racism and no form of anti-Semitism is acceptable in Switzerland, said the head of the Federal Department of Justice and Police (FDJP) on Monday on the fringes of a meeting in Brussels.
"I would like to express my sympathy to the injured person and their relatives," continued the Federal Councillor. He very much hoped that the injured person would recover.
He will ensure that such an act does not happen again in Switzerland. When asked about additional measures to protect the Jewish population in Switzerland, Jans said that additional measures were planned, but not as a result of the event.
In response to a question from a journalist, Jans did not yet have any definite information on the background of the perpetrator. This was part of the investigation being conducted by the canton of Zurich. The investigation should also clarify whether it was a lone perpetrator or whether an organized group was involved.
