If the voters clear the way for a change of canton from Moutier to Jura in September, this will be the definitive end to the Jura issue. Pierre Alain Schnegg, member of the Bernese cantonal government, emphasized this to the media on Monday.

On September 22, voters in the cantons of Bern and Jura will vote simultaneously on a concordat and a constitutional amendment so that the Bernese-Jura town of Moutier can join the canton of Jura at the beginning of 2026. The concordat is balanced and fair, emphasized Schnegg. Everyone had had to make compromises.

The Bernese cantonal government and the parliament, the Bernese Grand Council, recommend that voters put a yes vote in the ballot box.

Schnegg emphasized that opponents of the concordat were mistaken when they claimed that the Jura issue would never be resolved. All measures had been taken to ensure that the old disputes would be a thing of the past. The people of the Bernese Jura wanted to turn their attention to the future.
