Stricter rules will apply to bikers in Zug's forests in future. Voters have clearly approved the new forest law.
The Zug electorate thus followed the government council and the cantonal parliament, which recommended that the revised Forest Act be adopted. According to the State Chancellery, the decision was made with 28,397 yes votes to 10,633 no votes. This corresponds to 72.8 percent of votes in favor. The turnout was 51.2 percent.
The reform has consequences for bikers in Zug. From now on, they will only be allowed to cycle on forest roads and on bike routes defined in the structure plan, and no longer on forest paths.
The new forest law aims to better protect plants and animals in the forest from people's leisure activities. In future, a ban on flying drones will also apply in the forest and dogs must be kept on a lead during the closed season. Dealing with the risk of forest fires will also be reorganized and it will be easier to monitor or destroy harmful organisms.
The vote came about because IG Mountainbike, together with fellow campaigners, launched a referendum against the revised Forest Act. The interest group complained that the planned bike trails were unattractive and that the bike routes had not even been defined in the structure plan.
