Bishop Charles Morerod was admitted to hospital on Wednesday for emergency surgery on his head. The operation was successful and the diocese of Lausanne, Geneva and Freiburg wishes him a speedy and full recovery. The cause of the surgery was a subdural hematoma, which was the result of a fall from a bicycle a few months ago. On Wednesday, Bishop Morerod had spoken out about a pilot study on sexual abuse in the Catholic Church, calling it "shocking" and expressing his commitment to a cultural change in the diocese. In an interview with the Neuchâtel newspaper Arcinfo, he said he was ready to resign if he had made any major mistakes. An investigation into Morerod and other members of the Bishops' Conference has been launched by Bishop Joseph Bonnemain on the orders of the Vatican, following a letter from whistleblower Nicolas Betticher to the Nuntiature of the Holy See in Bern. Betticher is a former Vicar General of the Diocese of Lausanne, Geneva and Freiburg and currently a pastor in Bern.nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn
