"Bon Schuur Ticino" has recorded a total of 339,051 admissions so far. This puts the comedy in the top ten most successful Swiss films of all time. This was announced on Monday by distributor DCM Film Distribution.
The film by director Peter Luisi ("Flitzer", "Prinzessin") starring Beat Schlatter was released in cinemas in German-speaking Switzerland and Ticino at the end of November. During these few weeks, so many film fans flocked to the cinemas that the film became the most successful Swiss film of 2023.
The film was released in French-speaking Switzerland in mid-January. And now "Bon Schuur Ticino" has overtaken "Platzspitzbaby" (2019) by Pierre Monnard in the list of the most successful Swiss films from 1976 to 2022 published by the Federal Statistical Office (FSO). The comedy has thus moved up to tenth place on this list.
The undisputed leader with 942,110 admissions is "Die Schweizermacher" (1978) by Rolf Lyssy, followed at some distance by "Die Herbstzeitlosen" (2006) by Bettina Oberli and "Mein Name ist Eugen" (2005) by Michael Steiner.
"Bon Schuur Ticino" takes a tongue-in-cheek look at the different cultural sensitivities in the Swiss language regions. Luisi and Schlatter have filmed the thought experiment according to which Swiss voters have decided that only French will be spoken in the country.
