National Councillor Florence Brenzikofer has decided against running for the presidency of the Green Party. She confirmed this at the request of Keystone-SDA. She is putting her party colleague Lisa Mazzone (GE) forward as her favorite.
After almost six years as Vice-President and part of the Green Party's Executive Committee and almost ten years as President and Vice-President of the Green Party Baselland, she now wants to focus primarily on her mandate as a member of the National Council, Brenzikofer continued. Key business is pending in the areas of energy policy and rent control. She would also like to have more time for her commitment in the Basel region and in transport policy.
The National Councillor sees her party colleague Lisa Mazzone (GE) as the favorite for the party presidency - and thus for the succession to Balthasar Glättli, who is stepping down from the post in the spring. She knows the processes and political business in Bern very well and is bilingual. Even as a non-parliamentarian, she believes she is capable of holding the office of party president, says the 48-year-old.
Brenzikofer is a part-time secondary school teacher and President of the Baselbiet Nature Park/Tafeljura Adventure Area Association and the Swiss Public Transport Interest Group. She was re-elected to the National Council in last fall's elections.
