Sales of Swiss chocolate increased slightly last year. According to the industry association Chocosuisse, sales volumes increased by 0.7% compared to 2022.

Sales volumes on the domestic market increased again slightly following a decline in the previous year. This is due to a higher market share of Swiss chocolate in Switzerland, Chocosuisse writes in a press release. This is around 60 percent. Meanwhile, per capita consumption of chocolate in Switzerland fell by 1 percent to 10.9 kilograms.

In the export business, however, the Swiss chocolate industry was able to sell less. According to figures from Chocosuisse, the export volume fell by 0.2 percent, with exports accounting for 72.4 percent of total production. The industry is struggling with high raw material prices: Chocosuisse believes that Swiss manufacturers are at a disadvantage because, in addition to the sharp rise in cocoa prices, they are also facing an "agricultural policy-related raw material price disadvantage" for sugar and milk powder.
