The public prosecutor's office in Schwyz has demanded a conditional prison sentence for a former cheese dairy operator for alleged involuntary manslaughter and assault. Seven people are said to have died in 2020 due to listeria in his cheese.

The public prosecutor's office of the canton of Schwyz has filed charges in 20 cases with the Schwyz district court in so-called summary proceedings, as detailed in a press release issued by the public prosecutor's office on Tuesday. The proceedings were discontinued in ten of the cases examined. In four cases, the personal details of the persons concerned are not known.

According to the press release, the public prosecutor's office considers it proven that the owner of the business did not adequately comply with his duty to inspect foodstuffs. It is demanding a conditional prison sentence and a conditional fine. The presumption of innocence applies.

Between 2018 and 2020, a total of 34 people were infected with Listeria due to the suspected same strain of Listeria.
