The federal government is warning of strong winds in parts of the Alps and the Jura on its natural hazards portal. From Saturday morning and until Saturday evening, wind speeds of up to 130 kilometers per hour are expected in exposed locations, it writes.
In the Alps, the warning applies to a region from Adelboden BE in an easterly direction to and including Liechtenstein, according to the natural hazard portal. In the Jura, the danger zone extends from the Vaud Jura to around Liestal BL.
Gusts could reach up to 130 kilometers per hour in the Jura - at an altitude of over 1000 meters above sea level. Meteorologists are expecting wind speeds of up to 110 kilometers per hour in exposed locations in the Alps. Föhn winds will prevail there from mid-afternoon.
The federal government has declared danger level 3 for the areas mentioned, which means considerable danger. It is to be expected that individual trees will fall, branches will break off and lightly attached objects such as tents or scaffolding will be at risk. There is an increased risk of accidents on the roads due to strong crosswinds in exposed areas.
Forests, trees and avenues should be avoided. The strongest wind phase is expected between midday on Saturday and Saturday evening.
In an area from Thun via Lucerne to St. Gallen, i.e. north of the main Alpine ridge, there is a moderate risk from winds. The same applies to mid-altitudes in the canton of Vaud, the canton of Geneva and parts of the cantons of Fribourg and Valais.
