Court sentences Lucerne man to around nine years in prison with custody

On Wednesday evening, the Lucerne Criminal Court sentenced a 74-year-old Swiss man to 8 years and 11 months imprisonment. The court also ordered that he be kept in custody, as the accused is at high risk of reoffending.
The risk of recidivism is very high, as the accused still does not recognize the suffering he has caused, said the judge at the sentencing. He saw himself as a victim who had fallen into the clutches of the justice system.
The accused had already been convicted of sexual assault of two children in 2006. At that time, custody was waived as a last chance, according to the judge. He had not used this opportunity.
At the trial on Tuesday, the public prosecutor's office had demanded a prison sentence of 12 years with custody. The defense lawyer, on the other hand, demanded a prison sentence of 4.5 years and outpatient anti-androgen therapy. The therapy involves suppressing the male sex hormones by means of an injection.
The 74-year-old was charged with human trafficking, multiple sexual acts with minors, multiple sexual assaults, the production of child pornography and violating the Weapons Act. The verdict can still be appealed.
