After ten years as Director of the Kunsthalle Zürich, Daniel Baumann is stepping down at the end of 2024. The Foundation Board takes note of this decision with great regret, according to a statement.
When he took office, Baumann had already said that he wanted to hold the post for a maximum of ten years, a media spokeswoman told Keystone-SDA. Institutions such as an art gallery need changes in order to constantly revitalize and reposition themselves.
Baumann took up the position at the end of 2014 as the successor to Beatrix Ruf. He studied art history and German literature in Geneva. From 1996 until he took up his post at the Kunsthalle Zürich, he was curator of the Adolf Wölfli Foundation at the Kunstmuseum Bern.
From 2003 to 2010, Baumann was responsible for the Basel Kunsttangente, a project for art in public spaces. He also curated exhibitions in various countries.
The Kunsthalle Zürich exhibits contemporary art. The exhibition institute was founded in 1985 and is located on the Löwenbräukunst site.
