Divers find body parts in the Rhine north of Basel

Divers have discovered parts of a body in the Rhine north of Basel in southern Germany. According to a preliminary autopsy report, the man was the victim of a homicide, the police in Freiburg and the public prosecutor's office in Waldshut-Tiengen announced on Friday.

According to the report, the body was discovered during a dive on April 6 in the Breisach area in the Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald district around 50 kilometers north of Basel.

Identification has now also been achieved. He is a 38-year-old man from the Waldshut district who has been missing since January 4. According to the investigators, the last proven contact with him was at the end of December.

The police set up a special commission. Investigations were carried out around the man's last place of residence on Friday. Search dogs were also deployed.
