The "Museo Hermann Hesse Montagnola" and the Neuchâtel "L'avant-scène opéra" each receive the Doron Prize 2024 . The museum and the opera ensemble were honored for their ongoing cultural and artistic commitment. The prizes are endowed with CHF 100,000 each.
The "Museo Hermann Hesse Montagnola" in Ticino is being honored for "its ongoing commitment to bringing the work and life of Hermann Hesse closer to a broad public and promoting cultural diversity in the region", according to a statement from the foundation on Tuesday.
The museum is considered one of the most important points of contact for fans of Hesse and literature lovers. The museum in Montagnola in Ticino was opened in 1997 to mark the 120th anniversary of Hermann Hesse's death.
In 1985, singer and conductor Yves Senn founded "L'avant-scène opéra", an opera ensemble with its own opera academy. The Swiss Foundation for the Doron Prize honors the "ongoing great commitment" of the ensemble and the academy. The performances inspire audiences at home and abroad.
In addition to artistic excellence, the ensemble is also characterized by its commitment to social responsibility and inclusion. This includes, for example, theater workshops with people with disabilities.
For 39 years, the foundation has honored outstanding achievements in the fields of culture, public welfare and science. The Swiss Foundation for the Doron Prize was established in 1986 by commodities and real estate magnate Marc Rich.
