Edelrid recalls belay and abseiling device

The German company Edelrid is recalling potentially faulty belay and abseiling devices of the type "MEGA JUL" from 2013 to 2023. There is a risk of falling, as the so-called second ascender eyelet may be defective.
According to a joint statement issued by the Accident Prevention Bureau (BFU) and Edelrid on Tuesday, the defect can be recognized by a change in the metal surface. It is easily visible on visual inspection. The company writes on its website that there have been no accidents to date.
When asked, Edelrid said that the company had produced more than 100,000 devices of the type in question in the years in question. 2800 of these had been delivered to Switzerland. So far, Edelrid is aware of three faulty devices. The company specializes in climbing ropes and equipment for mountain sports and occupational safety.
