ESC decision due to more enthusiasm in Basel and Geneva

SRG chose Basel and Geneva as possible Eurovision Song Contest venues because there is more enthusiasm for the event there. This was somewhat less noticeable in Zurich and Bern/Biel.
But in the end it was a matter of nuances, SRG spokesperson Edi Estermann told Radio SRF1's "Regionaljournal Zürich-Schaffhausen" on Friday.
The decision was not easy. "We had four excellent dossiers on the table." However, the political framework situation, specifically the referendum threats against the ESC staging, was not the decisive factor. "That was not a killer criterion," Estermann continued.
In fact, both Geneva and Basel were quick to submit a bid to host the ESC. In Zurich and Bern/Biel, the process took much longer.
