Fake police officers have relieved two elderly people in the canton of Neuchâtel of tens of thousands of francs in recent days. The real police arrested one of the suspects and confiscated a considerable amount of loot.

Between June 18 and 25, people posing as police officers contacted several elderly people living in the canton, the Neuchâtel cantonal police announced on Thursday. According to the report, two of the people contacted handed over large sums of money to the fraudsters. The perpetrators also received bank cards from the victims, which they used to withdraw money.

On Monday, a suspect was arrested in cooperation with the Geneva cantonal police. According to the police, this person was in possession of the money handed over by the victims. The Neuchâtel public prosecutor's office initiated a criminal investigation.

The Neuchâtel police are warning that elderly people are being targeted by fraudsters. They also point out that bank cards, bank details and other valuables should never be handed over to strangers.
