The Bauerngewerkschaft Uniterre has launched a new campaign to raise awareness among policy makers and consumers about the need for "fair prices". Uniterre believes that the government must intervene to regulate the market and protect producers. Ultimately, both consumers and producers should benefit from this campaign. The focus of the campaign is the wheat bread value chain, but Uniterre is also calling for fair producer prices for all value chains. The concentration of power among retailers such as Coop and Migros has put pressure on producers by dictating low prices and making huge profits. However, production costs for farmers are increasing and the determination of prices remains opaque. Therefore, the government must intervene to regulate the market and protect both consumers and farmers.
