Fatal fire in Wiggen LU: Fire broke out in household waste

It is now clear why the farmhouse in Wiggen, Lucerne, went up in flames at the end of January and why three children lost their lives. According to fire investigators from the Lucerne police, the fire broke out in the household garbage and then spread to the entire building.
However, the Lucerne public prosecutor's office announced on Monday that responsibility and the exact circumstances are the subject of ongoing investigations. The investigating authorities are assuming negligence.
In the meantime, the Institute of Forensic Medicine in Zurich has been able to identify the three victims of the fire. As already suspected, they are the three missing children. According to the public prosecutor's office, they died of carbon monoxide poisoning from inhaled smoke before the emergency services arrived.
Two seriously injured
The fire was reported to the police on the night of January 22. When the emergency services arrived, a house and an attached barn were fully engulfed in flames. The house was an old farmhouse made of wood.
Three adults were injured in the fire, two of them seriously. They were flown to hospital by helicopter. The three children, who have now been identified, were still missing on Monday morning. It was not until the afternoon that the public prosecutor's office announced that three fatalities had been recovered. Even then, it was assumed that they were the missing children.
According to the authorities, the adults were the parents of the three children and the woman's partner, who all lived in the two apartments of the farmhouse.
