Federal Council does not want to support Swiss photovoltaic industry

The Federal Council is against industrial policy support measures in favor of the photovoltaic industry. It writes in a report to Parliament that Switzerland's strong research contributes significantly to the development of the European solar industry.
The Federal Council took note of the report at its meeting on Friday. It writes that Europe and Switzerland are currently heavily dependent on the Chinese photovoltaic industry. Other countries, such as the USA, are responding to this with industrial policy measures.
According to the Department of Economic Affairs, Education and Research (EAER), these measures abroad only have a limited impact on Switzerland as a business location. This speaks against industrial policy measures for the Federal Council.
Research and development in Switzerland would contribute a great deal to the development of the photovoltaic industry worldwide. Photovoltaic research and development is well positioned in Switzerland.
