On the second day of their Federal Council trip, the members of the national government visited Goms in Upper Valais on Friday. President Viola Amherd took her Council colleagues to the music village of Ernen in her home canton.
The Ernen Music Village Festival takes place in the summer months and includes concerts and readings. This year's program includes chamber music concerts by the international Trio Gaspard, as outlined in a press release from the Federal Council on his trip.
There was a tasting for the national government in the run-up to the concert series. Beforehand, the members of the Federal Council and the Federal Chancellor were given a guided tour of Ernen, where the Tellenhaus with the oldest dated Tell frescoes in Switzerland from 1578 can be seen. The last stop on the Federal Council's 2024 trip was a private lake in the hamlet of Bitschji above Naters.
The meetings with the population and the authorities, which are customary during Federal Council trips, took place on the first day of the trip - in the cantonal capital of Sion and in the Upper Valais capital of Brig. On a circular tour near Salgesch, the so-called Emerald Lizard Trail, biodiversity, viticulture and small-scale, sustainable tourism were discussed.
The federal government has been organizing trips by members of the Federal Council since 1957. This year's trip was the fifth during the term of office of a President of the Swiss Confederation from Valais.
