Festivals warn of scams involving counterfeit concert tickets. The Fédération romande des consommateurs (FRC), a consumer organization in western Switzerland, is once again launching its "Ticket Check" campaign to raise public awareness.
Festivals such as Paléo Nyon, Montreux Jazz and Festi'neuch have teamed up with the Swiss Music Promoters Association and the FRC for "Ticket Check". In a press release issued on Tuesday, they appeal to festival visitors.
First and foremost, it is important to buy tickets only through the official ticket sales of the event and to check the availability of seats and the actual price of the tickets, the organizations advise.
This is because a few minutes after the festival ticket offices open, tickets are advertised on resale platforms, sometimes at indecently high prices. This resale market, which is handled via parallel channels, is known as the gray market.
This practice is legal in Switzerland. However, it restricts the industry's scope for action and creates an environment that favors the spread of fraud, writes the FRC.
If festival visitors come across a fraudulent offer, they should report it to the FRC and file a complaint, according to the appeal.
