Film “Emilia Pérez” wins at the European Film Awards

Not only best director, best screenplay and best actress - the film "Emilia Pérez" by Jacques Audiard was also awarded best film on Saturday evening in Lucerne.

The film, a dramatic musical comedy, tells the story of a well-known Mexican drug dealer who, with the help of a lawyer, undergoes a sex change and is henceforth called Emilia Pérez in order to go into hiding.

The 72-year-old director and screenwriter Jacques Audiard really cleaned up on Saturday evening. The Frenchman was also awarded Best Director and Best Screenwriter at the Culture and Convention Center Lucerne (KKL). In addition, the Spanish leading actress in the film, Karla Sofía Gascón, won the award for best European actress.

The movie is a mix of different genres and styles. The cast includes pop star Selena Gomez.

"Emilia Pérez" was already awarded the Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival last May.
